Morning Inspiration || Stronger Together
The 2012 Democratic National Convention crowd was brought to their feet by a video, “Stronger Together”, which addressed the battle for women’s rights. The video opened with an image of President Barack Obama standing at a podium addressing the recent controversies surrounding women’s issues.
President Obama declared, “I think women’s issues have been over simplified. Women are not an interest group. Women shouldn’t be treated that way. Women are half this country and half of its workforce.”
As images of women pictured at work, school, and home flashed across the screen, President Obama commented that he sees the recent debates surrounding women’s issues as, “refighting battles we have settled long ago.” He pointed out that the contraceptive fight in particular was taking us back in time.
Ellen, a delegate from Michigan, was inspired to say, “It’s clear that this is going to be an election for and about women. On issues important to women the GOP war on women couldn’t be clearer.”
“The days of male politicians controlling the healthcare decisions of our wives, and our mothers, and our daughters, and our sisters — that needs to come to an end,” added the President as the convention crowd cheered.
The video ended with the President promise to continue to move America forward by saying, “So the choice between moving backwards and moving forward has never been so clear. As long as I’m President we will keep moving forward. You can count on that.”
