Honesty Hour: I’ll Never Visit Another “Gossip” Blog Site AGAIN!
It’s after 12 am Sunday February 19th 2012, the day after the
funeral of one of my favorite female singers of all time. My heart is still very
full and my spirit half-broken but I’m also full of joy, hope, and love from
today’s televised home-going service.
The best thing for me to do right now is rest and prepare for service but
my soul couldn’t rest until I penned this and got it off my chest.
The performances, the expressions, and mere presence of so many people,
in the house of the lord, broadcasted for everyone in the world no matter the religious
belief nor race was so profound that as each hour past a layer of my grief had
lifted.
There was a continuous message throughout the day and it was something
that should be preached, enforced and heard throughout the entire world.
Entertainers whether they are singers, actors/actresses, musicians etc.
they give us so much of them that’s its
almost crazy. They risk their lives, put their all into what they do, and miss
out on living the normal lives we complain about---all for entertainment, to
make us happy.
YET, we continually TEAR them down, point out flaws, mistakes, and point
the finger as if we are above, without sin, and don’t have to pay for the life
we live when it’s our time.
Since i was introduced to music, I’ve loved quite a few artists. Whitney
among many, many others rose to fame for their talent, but in a blink of an eye
some found it almost their life’s mission to tear apart her name, her success,
and her legacy. Even in memorial, some choose to bash her for choices she made
in her life as if they are God. What they don’t know is that same bashing they
will see when it’s their time.
It hurt me so bad to look at the blogs post false stories all week for hits
or the nonexistent celebratory right to be first with a breaking story. As a
fan it hurt me to see someone whom I admired for many reasons, to even in death
be ridiculed for the choices they made. As a Christian woman it made me upset
to see some of those other “religious” figures tweet, comment, and present
mindless and disrespectful nonsense. As a fan it hurt me to see, even during
her home going service so many people allow ignorance and the devil to use them
to post such disrespectful things- so much so that I even unfollowed people and
eventually logged off all together.
What does it matter what this woman or any other entertainer did in their
past? they past does not and will never define whom they were or what their
legacy will be. What does it matter about what they drank or what they smoked? Or
whom they cheated with? Why is it of so
much concern to tmz? Star? Necole bitchie, or the ever ignorant Sandra rose??? To
name a few.
No story, no rumor, no capitalization or other foolishness can take away
from the fact that I like many Whitney Houston fans felt the hurt and pain of
losing an icon. She was and will always be the greatest singer of my lifetime…and
there’s absolutely nothing anyone can do about that.
In an effort to keep this short, I will say this: instead of making it
your life to tear somebody down or to bring up faults, point finger, and judge
people. How about you pray for them? Shower them with love? And do the right
thing and say something positive.
This is a cruel enough world we live in already, your negativity could
just be that push that’ll take somebody over the edge.
STOP JUDGEMENT. STOP GOSSIPING.
